July 2013: A massive WordPress theme with unique features and conditional CSS for a Delaware Health Initiative.
This is a contract project for Worldways Social Marketing. Unless otherwise specified, contract projects are development only projects. All design elements are property of this agency.
Beginning in May 2013 I was tasked with the development of a health initiative for the state of Delaware. The project itself consisted of numerous art boards which I was asked to convert to functional WordPress theme. The homepage featured a unique slider which relied on icons to represent each individual program, and on hover those icons required the main slider area to change. In addition, each program area within the initiative was color coded and there were slight variations in the design elements. To keep the code as minimal as possible, I used numerous conditional statements to check for which page an individual was on, and then customize the template accordingly. This allowed me to use one master page template that was dynamically built based solely entirely on which page a user was accessing.
The sidebar of each page is widgetized and also has it’s own conditional checks, allowing for custom content to be added on a per-page basis if necessary. Besides coding this complete theme from scratch, I also built and customized other elements including: a full ‘order materials’ form, interactive CSS3 flip-cards for Q&A ‘games’, and a custom “dream wall” which populated user submitted entries (via a front-end form saved to a custom post type) and randomized the color of text for each post. I optimized the layout for viewing on all devices.
